Needles is the last known remaining member of his kind; the Scarletythe (or Scarlets, for short, as folk say). The Scarletythe were considered the most powerful and "pure" of demonkind, as they purportedly were the closest in relation and appearance to a fabled "Progenitor" demon. The Scarletythe ruled powerfully but peacefully for a long time with the other species of demon, until an individual come to be known as the "Arch Scarlet" took over control and ruled with tyranny and death. At some point, the Arch Scarlet decided they not only wanted dominion over the Demon world, but other ones as well and activated a blood-powered, interdimensional machine called the "Magnaltaire" in an attempt to cross over into new realms. The Magnaltaire didn't function the way they had intended however and instead of bringing them somewhere new, the machine violently merged their own world with another: Earth. Despite the setback and heavy casualties, the Arch Scarlet took advantage of their newfound situation and sought to take over this newly created world that became known to all, humans and demon alike, as "Desolearth". With diminished numbers however and a newfound alliance made between humans and the other demon races; the remaining Scarletythe found heavy resistance in what would be known as the "Scarlet War". In the end, the Arch Scarlet was defeated and their tyrannical reign had finally come crashing down. Humans and the other demons would continue to rebuild their new broken world and live in relative harmony.
It didn't take long for scavengers, junkers, bandits and treasure hunters to scour the ruins of the fallen Scarletythe base looking for anything that could aid them or fetch them a good penny.
One day, a scavenger couple named Vince and Hayley would find much more than they bargained for when they came upon a hidden corridor in one of the ruin's facilities. Down the old, broken corridor they found a door that was worn on the outside but still sealed. The only text that could be translated in any form from the door was: "Needles". After prying it open, they had found it contained several containment cells and stasis tubes that were not known from any other facility in the ruins. The squeals and chirps of a small creature scurrying about the room had surprised them and what they came to find was something more shocking than anything else they had found before...
The couple knew exactly what the small creature was; a Scarletythe toddler no more than 2 or 3 years old. The first one seen since the defeat of the Arch Scarlet just weeks before. Although scared of the implications of finding the child, the couple felt sympathy for him upon realizing that he was just confused, alone and afraid. With fear of what might happen if someone else found him, they decided to take the Scarletythe boy in as their own to raise alongside their own son; Toby. They named him Needles; in reference to the text labeled on the room they found him in and his pointed, sharp teeth.

Fast forward 23 years, Needles has grown friendly, laidback, and helpful if somewhat haughty and show-off-ish sometimes. He scavenges for valuables and junk alongside his adoptive family, who live in a small scavenger settlement in the wastes called Boarhoof. As a Scarletythe, Needles generates and has the ability to control "Umbra" a dark energy that can cause severe damage to all other life forms, but that can be manipulated and used to heal or attack by Scarletythe. Needles can generate Umbrage from his hands as energy blasts and can even concentrate it into an elastic grappling beam. Because of his status and literal power, Needles tries to remain unseen from people outside his settlement, lest they try and harm him or the people he cares about. However, word of Needles quickly starts to spread after one day when he saves Thalassia; a sergeant of the W.R.R. (Wasteland Recover & Rescue) from a group of bandits called the Varanus Pyros. Now with the world starting to remember the Scarletythe once more thanks to Needles, twisted minds from all over have ambitions to seize Needles and his umbra to push their own agendas....
